omghax.ca on Facebook and YouTube

So, this is the first blog post for the year 2010 and since August 2009. A bit of a break, don't you say.

So First I'd like to say Happy New Year from omghax.ca. I hope it's going well so far. Andrew and I haven't gotten much of a chance to do a lot of hacking and urban exploring, but in the last couple weeks, we've taken a couple days to drive around and do some hacking in town. Hopefully Andrew will post some of our pictures, but we haven't taken a whole lot lately. Stay tuned for more pictures and videos (yes I'm planning to post vids too)

Now for the main part of this post:

I created an omghax.ca YouTube account after we blasted rented speakers in the back of a truck and I had a video of it. The address for that is http://www.youtube.com/Omghaxca and you'll find that video still there.

Also about a week ago I created an omghax.ca fan page on facebook, so you can become a fan by searching "omghax.ca" in the search bar or going to this

<fb:fan profile_id="370262843985" stream="0" connections="0" logobar="1" width="300"></fb:fan>
omghax.ca on Facebook

That's it for today.

Jordan.

A mini rant

Hacking isn't stealing information and wreaking havoc, it's about getting inside and learning something new about something you are interested in without the help of others. A way to make something out of nothing by taking other things you have learned and applying it to new things and ideas. It's a way of thinking, not something you can just learn. It is and never was about stealing people's information and money, destroying people's pictures/data/hard work, and trying to gain respect from others. It's just a way of life and I'm proud to call my self a hacker, it's just that no one else seems to know what it truly means. Sometimes I don't make mention of anything I like to do because people might not trust me in the future because of what the media and everyone else thinks hackers are. I normally always keep it to myself but I started this rant on Facebook's 'About Me' section to hopefully get a response. I know I am not the only person who thinks this way, we just need to be more outspoken. Comments? E-mail me at andrew[at]omghax.ca and I'll be sure to reply and make a new post or add onto this one with your comments.

-Andrew

iPhone/iPod Touch Shoutcast ads

Hey everyone,

I love the iPod Touch Shoutcast app so when I had the opportunity to update the app I though there was no sense not to (good things can only get better, right?). But I was wrong, the update brought "better stability" and some ads at the bottom of each tab when browsing for streams. As much as I hate ads, these are the even more annoying ones that pop up each and every time you change a tab or view and were really pissing me off. So I just went about my way (thanks Squid) and found a very easy way to stop them from being displayed, all you need to do is add these lines into the /etc/hosts of your iPhone/iPod Touch:

127.0.0.1 image.m-adx.com
127.0.0.1 ad.m-adx.com

There you go, the Shoutcast app without extremely annoying ads. This might also block some ads in other applications that come from the same company (Third Screen Media.)

-Andrew

Fail Security at the CBC-SRC, St. John's

Every good Canadian and many other people around the world watch or listen to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, whether it's for the news, for the wonderful programming (lol Coronation Street) or for it's charming weather guy here in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ryan Snoddon. Well on June 7, 2009, myself and Andrew were looking at a few things, from the awesome phone setup at the C.A. Janeway Hospital for the telethon, to going to the CBC HQ on Prince Philip Drive in St. John's to see if we can see the behind the scenes work for the telethon. When we went up to the front doors of the CBC building, we tried opening the two locked doors, and this security person at the front of the building opened the door for us and let us in, no questions asked. We looked into a couple rooms and when we were in an IT room, we ended up getting caught by someone who was working in there. Pictures from interesting things in and around the CBC building will soon be uploaded to the pictures section of this site.

So let us all take a moment to applaud the high end security of Canada's top broadcaster.
